The Rabbit’s Liver
Traditional Story
Once upon a time, there was a big underwater palace of the dragon king. One day, the dragon king got sick. Doctor said, his disease could be cured by eating rabbit’s liver. The dragon king asked, “Who will go to the land and get rabbit’s liver for me?” One of his subjects, the turtle said “I will go to the land and get rabbit’s liver for you. Don’t worry, your highness.”
The turtle swam to the land, and at the beach, he met the rabbit. He said, “Hi! I’m from a underwater palace. Have you ever visit under the sea? If you go with me, I will show you the beautiful palace and also you can enjoy many delicious foods. Let’ go with me!” The rabbit said, “How kind of you! I really want to see under the sea and underwater palace. I’ll join you.” The rabbit rode on the turtle’s back, the turtle swam to the palace. After they arrived at the palace, suddenly the rabbit was arrested by the dragon king’s subjects. The rabbit said, “What are you doing? I didn’t do anything wrong!!” The turtle said, “I’m so sorry. I told a lie to you. My king is sick, and he needs your liver. I’m so sorry.” The rabbit finally realized they will kill him and take away his liver. The rabbit used his wits and said, “I’m so sorry to hear that. Why didn’t you tell the truth? If you tell the truth, I will take my liver. I leaved my liver between the rocks. If the dragon king let me go, I will go to the land and take my liver for you!” The dragon king said, “Good! Hurry up, turtle! Go to the land with the rabbit and take the liver for me!”
The turtle swam to the land again. At last the turtle and rabbit arrived at the beach. The turtle said, “Please hurry up. We have to go back.” The rabbit said, “You idiot! How can I get out my liver? I tell a lie to you. I’m sorry.” Then the rabbit ran away.
Modern Story
The turtle was very depressed. Just at that moment, the turtle found an advertising brochure from the organ donation center. The turtle was hopeful that maybe he can find a rabbit’s liver from there. The turtle went to the organ donation center and finally found the donor rabbit. The donor rabbit wanted to give her half of liver to someone who really needed. The turtle received the rabbit’s liver, and went to the palace. The dragon king could be cured at last. The dragon king was really appreciated to the donor rabbit. So he invited the donor rabbit to his palace. The donor rabbit was given a warm reception. The dragon king said, “I want to reward for your kindness. Do you have anything want?” Then, the rabbit said, “Oh, I don’t need anything. I just want to help someone. I’m so glad to see that you are healthy now. I don’t need compensation.” The dragon king and his subjects were very impressed by the rabbit’s warm heart.

Hanok Village In Samcheong-dong
If foreigners visit Korea, they should visit Samcheong-dong. In Samcheong-dong, there are many Korean traditional style houses. Hanok is a term to describe Korean traditional houses.
Hanok is made of soil, timber, and rock. Therefore, Hanok doesn’t cause pollution. Hanok’s windows and doors are made of hanji, Korean traditional paper. The shapes of Hanok differ from region. In the south region, Hanok is built in a straight line like the letter “I” because of the warm weather. Straight shapes allow good wind circulation. In the northern region, Hanoks are box shaped to blocked the wind. In the central region, the shape of Hanok is like the letter “L”, that is a mixture of the northern and southern region’s shapes.
Koreans don’t use fireplaces. Instead of a fireplace, we have a heated floor. In Hanok, there is a Agungi, a Korean style furnace. When you make fire in Agungi, the stone under the floor is heated. It makes whole house warm because warm air rises. I think this system is one of the most scientific heating systems in the world.
These days, most houses don’t use a fan heater anymore. Instead, we use a boiler in a similar way to Hanok’s heating system.
I think Hanok is very unique stlye house, so foreingers will be very instrested in hanok!

The Greatest Invention
The Greatest Invention
I think the greatest invention is "The internet". Most people use the internet everyday. With computers and smart phones, we read internet news, check e-mail, blog and so on. Everything is possible with the internet.
Before the invention of the internet, we could only get information from all over the world through the television or radio. However television and radio are one-way communication systems. We just watch television, listen to the radio and that's all. However, with the internet, we can experience a two-way communication system. For example, after we read internet news, we can write a comment about that news. We can express our opinion, and also read other people's opinions.
Also, the internet makes us more comfortable. For example, I want to go on a trip abroad. First, I will serch for information using google or naver, about accomodations, food, places and so on. Next, I will book the flight and hotel through the internet. If I couldn't use the internet, I would have to find many books for that information, and I would have to call the airline and hotel for a reservation. It is more inconvenient than using the internet, and also needs more time. Using the internet, we can shop, take a class(cyber class), use internet banking etc. We can't imagine living without the internet anymore.

My hero
Most of Korean's favorite King is Sejong the Great because he really loved his people. Sejong the Great was a King of Joseon Dynasty. At the time, people used chinese characters, but Chinese characters were very difficult to learn, so only scholars or high class people learned Chinese characters and used, so many people couldn't read and write. Sejong the Great wanted to help all people read and write Korean, so he created Hangul, which is a very simple and easy Korean alphabet to learn and use.
Thanks to Sejong, we have our own alphabet and all Koreans are proud of our alphabet.
Also, he wanted to help farmers, so he made a book about farming and water clocks, and various farming appliances. It seems like he was a very mild and gentle, but he was a very strong king because he expanded Joseon's territory by powerful millitary force.
